Meet the Founder,

Genesis

Peter's story begins in Gonubie, a small coastal town nestled at the foot of the Transkei in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where a love of the ocean and an appreciation for the richness of life took root early. He completed his National Senior Certificate at Ooskus Gimnasium before following in his father's footsteps and pursuing his legal education at the University of the Free State — a decision that would set the course for everything that followed.

During his studies at UFS, Peter was appointed by the Faculty of Law as a Property Law Tutor, a position that not only deepened his academic understanding of the law but confirmed what he had always sensed: that law was not merely a career, but a calling.

A World Beyond the Courtroom

Before entering practice, Peter took a deliberate step away from the familiar. He relocated to Central America, spending time in the remote coastal town of Dominical in Costa Rica, where he co-managed a surf hostel alongside two close friends. It was a chapter defined by adventure, human connection, and an expansion of perspective — qualities that continue to inform the way he approaches his clients and their most pressing challenges today.

Building a Litigation Foundation

Upon returning to South Africa, Peter immersed himself in Cape Town's legal landscape, working across several law firms before formally commencing his clerkship as a candidate attorney at Nielen Marais Inc. — a firm with over 70 years of legal heritage. It was here that Peter forged his reputation as a litigator. During this period, he appeared in numerous Magistrates' Courts across the Western Cape and attended the Cape Town High Court on a daily basis, developing a litigation track record that few candidate attorneys can claim.

His clerkship also provided him with invaluable exposure to the full spectrum of legal practice beyond the courtroom. Peter attended regularly to the Master of the High Court, gaining hands-on experience in deceased estate administration, trust matters, and related proceedings. He developed a thorough working knowledge of the Deeds Office, navigating conveyancing processes and property registrations with precision.

Peter further honed his administrative and archival competence through regular attendance at the Western Cape Archives and Records Service — an experience that sharpened his attention to detail and deepened his understanding of the historical and documentary foundations that underpin so many legal matters.

Following the completion of his clerkship and enrollment as an practising attorney, Peter expanded his litigation track record and has appeared in more than 10 different Magistrates Courts litigating in a multitude of court cases across the Western Cape.

He furthered his courtroom credentials by successfully completing advanced Trial and Advocacy training, which granted him with The Right of Appearance in the High Court and all Superior Courts throughout South Africa.

A Firm Built on Purpose

Peter's journey in law began in 2015 — first as a student, then as a tutor and professional office assistant — but throughout every role he held, one ambition remained constant: to one day establish a law firm that stood for something meaningful. That firm is Meiring Attorneys.

At Meiring Attorneys, we are Loyal to our clients, Resolute in our pursuit of justice, and Faithful to the principles of honesty and integrity that the law demands. Whether your matter is urgent or complex, straightforward or deeply personal, you will find in us an attorney who listens, who prepares thoroughly, and who fights for the outcome you deserve.

Peter Meiring is the founding attorney of Meiring Attorneys, a firm built on the values of loyalty, resolute, and unwavering commitment to every client it serves.

"I had a great experience working with Mr Meiring—he was professional, knowledgeable, and truly cared about getting the best outcome for me. I felt supported every step of the way and would highly recommend him to anyone needing a reliable lawyer."
